Dancing down Peachtree Road
Back in 2004, Elton John came out with an amazing album that I don't think those who aren't Elton fans really know about. The album is called Peachtree Road and it really is amazing. It was produced in Atlanta where pretty much every other street is named Peachtree and Elton named the album after those streets as he was residing in Atlanta at the time as well. Also in 2004, Sir Elton was coming back to town on tour. My Dad had told me that he wanted to see Elton just once in concert as did my sister and bro-in-law and my aunt. So, being a fan club member, I asked if anyone wanted to pay the higher ticket price with me for "VIP Seating" and my aunt was all in while the others wanted the regular seats. So, of course, my responsibility to get all the tickets. I knew my aunt and I would be sitting in floor seats but you don't find out til you get to the ticket office just what row you'll be in. Usually, you end up within the first 20 rows. The rest of the family had good seats right up the side about fifteen rows and two or 3 sections from the stage. My aunt and I ended up in row 13 on the floor and we were happy with that. Funny thing was the rest of the family were right by us up on the side which meant I could take quick peaks up there to see how they were enjoying the show.
I've been lucky to go to several Elton shows and I'll tell you; he's amazing. The dude plays for 3 hours. He always plays the classics like "Crocodile Rock", "Bennie and the Jets" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and since he had a new album, he played quite a few selections from said album and I knew them all as I'd picked up the CD the day it came out.
Now, when I go to a concert, I rarely sit down unless it's some slow love song that you really can't shake your booty to. And if you're sitting on the floor, you pretty much stand the whole time to see the stage. Every now and again, I would look up to where my family was to see if they were enjoying the show. Mom was shaking it a little as were the sis and bro-in-law. Dad? Not so much which filled me with dread. See, if my Dad doesn't like something, he will tell you...over and over and over.
So the show ends and I say to my aunt, "I think Dad hated it!" We make our way out the the exit area where we'd agreed to meet at a certain spot and my sister comes rushing up to us and, points to where everyone else is and I said, "Dad hated it, didn't he!" and she replied, "Oh my God NO! He loved it!"
Say what?
So we meet the rest of the group and we can't stop talking about the show as we go to the car. Once in the car, Dad says, "That was the best show I've ever seen! I want that new CD!" He talked about the concert the entire way home.
The next day, a Saturday, I ran to Walmart to pick up the CD and then drove to see my Dad at his open house to give him the CD. His face lit up and he said, "That really was the most amazing concert! I'm so excited to listen to this CD!" And we sat for an hour talking about the concert.
For months after that concert, any time you'd get in Dad's vehicle, that CD was playing. And he would tell you during every song what part of the song was his favorite.
And he would play that CD REALLY LOUD.

And I've got all that I'm allowed
It'll do for me, I'm thankful now
The walls get higher every day
The barriers get in the way
But I see hope in every cloud
And I'm thankful, thankful
I'm thankful, so thankful
I'm thankful, I've got all that I'm allowed
All That I'm Allowed (Thankful)
